Hi! I'm Melody Rose Zimmerman
This is the part I’m bad at—the starting part. I so badly want to come across as the coolest chick you ever did meet. So I’m just going to ramble on about all of the impressive things about me and oddly leave out the normal things about me—like that I’m married to a great guy, struggle with social anxiety/hermit syndrome, and that I’m a 4w5 for all of you who are just dying to know my enneagram type/flaws. On to the impressive!
Hi, my name is Melody and I am a dabbler. *”Hi, Melody.” the mismatched bunch of misfits drone in reply* I feel like I’m always walking the line between being a professional dabbler and a chronic dabbler. “What is she talking about?” You ask in confusion. I’m talking about the fact that I am a creative and that photography isn’t the only thing that I use to create beauty in the world. And the fact that I just love to waffle about between all of the creative avenues that I pursue, resulting in a hodgepodge (ah, that’s a good word, isn’t it?) of my persona. (Also, side note: I love waffles.) So reporting live from the front lines, allow me to chronicle for you some of the many things in which I choose to invest my time.
So firstly, one of the major things I’m pursuing is wedding and couple’s photography. My favorite parts of capturing a wedding day are the session with the Bride and Groom and then finding the unique details to capture. My opinion is that you will remember the big parts of your wedding--the walking down the aisle, the bridal party, the venue. But what often tends to be forgotten are the little details--the flowers in your bouquet, the details of the bridesmaids dresses, your hands clasped together, the details of the cake. And I love being charged with the task of seeing those details and telling your story.
And if you’re just one person and not a couple—don’t feel left out! I freaking love solo sessions too. Especially when they’re just for the fun of it—those are the absolute best.
In addition to portrait photography, I also enjoy editorial photography. This love was mainly brought about by being a staff photographer for the women’s magazine Daughters of Promise the last couple of years. I’ve so enjoyed the art I’ve been able to create for them and the platform to expand my horizons.
Now for the more personal creative outlets I love to play with event design, flower farming/floral design, and self portraiture. I’m super into baking fancy desserts and beautiful cakes and then giving them away. I also love coffee like the typical white girl and work as a part-time barista. I love to thrift, but with very high standards. I am a chronic DIY person, but mostly because I'm overly independent. Lastly, I enjoy writing sappy cliche fiction and poetry. You can see all of my creative ventures on my Instagram pages @roseonajourney @evergreen.gatherings and @themelodystories.
Let's get clear on one thing: I don't have it all together. Every session that I do, I learn how to make a new mistake. And hopefully, how not to do the same thing next time. I'm just like you. I hate awkward situations which means I find myself in them waaaaay too often. I hate not knowing what I'm supposed to be doing. And while I love to say I love adventure, more often than not I opt for being comfortable over stepping into something unknown. So I get it. Photography is weird. Even though we carry cameras in our pockets all day, it's still weird. For this reason, I try, as much as possible to educate and explain and simplify so that your session can be relaxed, your expectations can be met, and so that we can be friends and have a blast. Never, ever hesitate to ask questions--whether you want to be a client or not. Also, be sure to check out my photo guide--again, whether you plan to be my client or someone else's. If you are interested in mentoring, feel free to reach out--I love to help others who are just getting started as I know all too well how difficult that can be.
Lastly, but most importantly, I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and my goal is to reflect Him in all that I do. I am nothing without Him. Without his grace, I certainly would have thrown away every opportunity to be where I am today. I know myself well enough to know that without Him, I would not be pursing creativity and beauty. I believe that He is the creator of the world, and by definition, the greatest artist of all time. I want my work to reflect His creation and to compliment the message of these verses from scripture: "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalms 139:14 (ESV) "For His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." Romans 1:20 (ESV)
Therefore, my mission for Melody Rose Photography is that through my work, you will look at yourself and the world around you in a new light.
I am so excited to be able to work with you, and look forward to getting to know you better!
